Oil Tanker Explodes in Strait of Hormuz After Deviating from Designated Route

An oil tanker exploded after hitting a naval mine in the Strait of Hormuz, according to Iranian media reports. The incident allegedly occurred when the tanker deviated from a shipping route designated by Tehran.

The Tasnim News Agency reported that Iran had repeatedly warned ships about the consequences of deviating from the specified route.

The Strait of Hormuz has been a focal point of tensions between Iran and the US, with both sides trading accusations over recent incidents. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi accused the US of violating an Iran-US memorandum of understanding by establishing an unauthorized alternative shipping route in the Strait.

Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts are underway to reopen the Strait and resolve the issue. Omani officials have been involved in talks with Iranian authorities, while the US has paused its bombing campaign against Iran for now.
