Ontario Farmers on Track for Record-Breaking Corn and Soybean Yields

Ontario farmers are on track for one of the most productive growing seasons in provincial history. The 2026 Great Ontario Yield Tour forecasts a record average corn yield of 206 bushels per acre, with a range of +/-1% at 203.94 to 208.06 bpa. This would surpass previous production records if favourable weather conditions continue through the remainder of the growing season.

Corn yields are expected to be high across the province, with Eastern Ontario forecasted to reach 200 bpa, a new record high. Western Ontario is also predicted to break a record at 215 bpa. A cold and wet spring created emergence challenges in some fields, but early-season setbacks appear to have had limited impact on overall yield potential.

Soybean yields are also expected to set a new provincial record, averaging 55 bpa. Field scouts identified some disease and pest pressure, including white mould, soybean aphids, spider mites and Sudden Death Syndrome (SDS), but severity appears limited and unlikely to significantly affect provincial production.

Market conditions are becoming more bullish, with several factors contributing to a constructive outlook for grain prices. The potential influence of a strong El Niño event remains a concern and will need to be monitored.
