OPEC+ Boosts Oil Production Amid Mideast War Disruptions
OPEC+ has agreed to boost oil production by 188,000 barrels per day from September, as part of an effort to stabilize global markets affected by the Middle East war. The decision was made in an online meeting between key members including Saudi Arabia and Russia.
The increase is seen as a way to offset disruptions caused by the war, but analysts warn that it may not have a significant impact on oil prices until export flows normalize. The Strait of Hormuz has been a major bottleneck for Gulf countries trying to increase exports.
Rystad Energy's Jorge Leon notes that 'today's decision changes little in the near term because (the Strait of) Hormuz remains constrained.' He expects the real market impact to come when normal export flows resume.
