OPEC+ Boosts Production as Middle East Tensions Ease
The price of oil decreased on hopes for Middle East stability and OPEC+ boosting production. Brent crude oil for October delivery dropped 5.16% to $83.39 a barrel, while US crude futures for September delivery declined nearly 6% to $79.66 per barrel.
US President Donald Trump announced fresh talks with Iran would begin later in the day, easing concerns over potential supply disruptions. OPEC+ members Saudi Arabia, Russia, and five others agreed to boost oil production by 188,000 barrels a day from September after an online meeting on Sunday.
Jorge Leon, analyst at Rystad Energy, said that while this increase was widely expected, it 'changes little in the near term' due to ongoing disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz. He warned that the real market impact will come when normal export flows resume.
