OPEC+ Boosts Production as Oil Prices Fall Amid Middle East Hopes
The price of oil has dropped due to increased production and hopes for Middle East peace talks. The Brent crude oil price for October delivery fell by 5.16% to $83.39 a barrel, while US crude futures declined nearly 6% to $79.66 per barrel.
OPEC+ members Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Algeria, and Oman agreed to boost production by 188,000 barrels a day from September. This increase was widely expected by analysts but will have little impact in the short term due to ongoing supply disruptions caused by the Middle East conflict.
Rystad Energy analyst Jorge Leon warned that the decision 'changes little in the near term because (the Strait of) Hormuz remains constrained.' He added that the real market impact will come when normal export flows resume, which could take time given the current situation.
