OPEC+ Halts Oil Output Hikes Amid Oversupply Concerns
OPEC+, the world's most influential oil cartel, is preparing to pause its production increases after September 2026. The decision to freeze output policy through the end of 2026 suggests that the group is getting nervous about oversupply.
The OPEC+ members, including Saudi Arabia and Russia, had approved an August production increase in July. However, once the voluntary cuts are fully unwound by the end of September, the taps will stop opening further.
The 2.9 million barrels per day that OPEC+ has released since April 2025 represents a significant supply injection. The planned pause after September could reverse this dynamic and impact oil prices, inflation expectations, and central bank policies.
