OPEC+ Halts Production Increases Amid Geopolitical Uncertainty
OPEC+ has suspended production hikes, keeping crude oil output unchanged in October, marking the first time the group has chosen to pause production increases since launching a new cycle in April of this year.
The decision was made after an online meeting between seven core OPEC+ countries, including Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Algeria, and Oman. They assessed the current state and future trends of the global oil market and chose to maintain production levels in October unchanged from September.
The pause in production hikes comes as geopolitical disturbances have weakened the alliance's regulatory capacity. The passage of the Strait of Hormuz has been blocked due to Middle East conflict, directly restricting the actual export capacity of oil-producing countries and affecting OPEC+'s influence on oil price trends and global market share.
