OPEC+ Hikes Production Quota Amid Ongoing Middle East Uncertainty
OPEC+ producers have decided to increase their crude production quota by around 188,000 barrels per day from September. The decision was made by seven key OPEC+ nations, including Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Algeria, and Oman.
The production hike restores the earlier cuts implemented in 2023. However, experts warn that it may not have an immediate impact on global oil supplies due to ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, particularly at the Strait of Hormuz where 20% of the world's oil exports pass through.
Russia is facing challenges with its oil industry after repeated Ukrainian drone attacks targeted energy infrastructure. As a result, Russia's current production is around 9 million barrels per day, below its OPEC+ target of approximately 9.8 million barrels per day.
