OPEC+ Locks in September Oil Production Hike Amid Global Geopolitical Tensions
OPEC+, the alliance of oil-producing countries, has confirmed an increase in oil production quotas by approximately 188,000 barrels per day starting from September. This move marks the final step in unwinding a series of voluntary supply reductions initiated in 2023.
The decision is aimed at balancing the global supply-demand equation as the alliance moves toward its 2027 policy framework. However, despite this increase, the global oil market continues to face pressure from geopolitical tensions, including conflicts affecting energy infrastructure in regions like the Gulf, Russia, and Ukraine.
For India, which relies on imports for a significant portion of its crude oil requirements, the volatility in the global oil market directly impacts the fiscal deficit and input costs for major domestic players like Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum.
