OPEC+ Puts Brakes on Oil Output Increases Amid Strait of Hormuz Disruptions
OPEC+ has decided to maintain steady oil production levels in October, ending six months of output increases. This pause comes as the group focuses on determining new production quotas for 2027.
The decision is influenced by ongoing disruptions to oil exports through the Strait of Hormuz due to the war with Iran, which limits OPEC+ supply decisions' impact on crude prices and market share.
The seven member countries, Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, Kuwait, Algeria, Kazakhstan, and Oman, agreed last month to increase production by 188,000 barrels per day in September. However, actual production remains below the group's targets due to regional oil flow disruptions.
