Oracle's Colossal AI Data Center Project Hits Major Milestone

Oracle's massive AI data center project in New Mexico remains on schedule as of July 16, 2026. The company's spokesperson confirmed that Project Jupiter is proceeding according to plan, which is a significant milestone for what could be the single largest private infrastructure investment in American history.

The campus spans over 1,400 acres and has an estimated price tag of up to $165 billion. Construction is already underway, with more than 2,700 workers on site, including around 700 local New Mexico residents. This matters for a state that has historically struggled to attract high-paying tech employment.

The project is expected to create over 7,000 construction jobs during the build-out phase and support around 1,500 ongoing positions once operational. Oracle has also committed to funding 80% of a $50 million investment in local water infrastructure.

One notable development in Project Jupiter's saga is Oracle's shift from traditional natural gas turbines to Bloom Energy's solid oxide fuel-cell technology. This pivot appears to be both pragmatic and strategic, as it sidesteps regulatory challenges related to the original power plan while aligning with the broader corporate trend toward cleaner energy sourcing for data centers.
