Orion Minerals Surges Ahead of JSE Junior Copper Peers
Orion Minerals is outperforming its junior copper peers on the JSE after releasing definitive feasibility studies (DFSs) for its flagship assets, Prieska Copper Zinc Mine and Okiep Copper Project. The company's share price has risen 26% year to date, in contrast to a 43% drop for Copper 360 and a 35% decline for Jubilee Metals.
The DFS is an important confidence-builder for investors, as it assesses the technical and economic viability of a development option. Orion's completion of this study gives it a significant advantage over its peers, including Copper 360, which has filed a mining viability report but has missed production targets since listing in 2023.
The second reason for Orion's success is funding certainty. The company recently raised R182m in equity and signed a binding $250m prepayment agreement with Glencore, providing an external validation signal that the project has been subjected to serious technical, commercial, and legal scrutiny.
