Orlen Buys Non-Middle Eastern Crude Amid Saudi Import Disruption Risks

Polish energy company Orlen has made several purchases of non-Middle Eastern crude oil as Saudi Arabia's oil imports face disruption risks.

This is not an unusual move for refiners in Central Europe, who have had to adapt their supply chains repeatedly due to pipeline or seaborne disruptions. The region's plants are often configured around Russian and Middle Eastern grades, but have learned to pivot towards Atlantic Basin, North Sea, and US crude when necessary.

Orlen, in particular, has a history of opportunistic spot buying outside its traditional term structure whenever Saudi or Gulf flows appear vulnerable. This approach can widen demand for the replacement grades, supporting North Sea and WTI differentials and Brent-linked spreads against Dubai.
