Pakistan CPI Rises 1.2% in July Amid Higher Transport and Food Costs
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in Pakistan increased by 1.2 percent in July compared to June, with an annual inflation rate of 9.2 percent year-over-year (YoY). The main drivers of this increase were higher transport, communication, and food costs.
Food prices rose significantly, with a month-on-month increase of 4.16 percent, driven mainly by the increased costs of perishable food items. Annual food inflation reached 10.64 percent compared to July 2025, with households paying nearly 11 percent more for food, particularly low-income groups.
The prices of wheat and wheat flour also rose in July, with wheat increasing by 7.0 percent and wheat flour by 5.0 percent. Rice prices remained relatively stable, increasing by only 2 percent for both rice varieties.
Petrol and diesel prices saw major increases in July compared to the previous month, with petrol prices rising by 24 percent and diesel by 38 percent YoY, reflecting the impact of higher international oil prices and domestic fuel price revisions.
