Pakistan Flour Prices Surge Amid Wheat Cost Escalation
Flour prices have risen again in several cities across Pakistan, adding to the financial burden on consumers due to persistent inflation. According to the Flour Dealers Association, a 20kg bag of flour in Peshawar has increased by Rs100 to Rs150 over the past two days. The price of a 20kg mixed flour bag now sells for Rs2,800, up from Rs2,650, while a 20kg fine flour bag costs Rs3,000, up from Rs2,900.
The Flour Dealers Association attributed the increase to rising wheat prices, saying that flour prices continue to climb as the cost of wheat escalates. In Faisalabad, flour prices have also gone up, varying across different parts of the city. Tandoor owners have raised the price of bread, with shopkeepers citing the significantly increased cost of wheat.
In Sukkur, fine flour is being sold for Rs130 to Rs135 per kilogram, while stone-ground flour is priced between Rs140 and Rs150 per kilogram. Consumers are severely affected by the rising cost of essential food items, urging the government to control food prices and ensure an adequate supply of wheat.
