Pakistan Gold Prices Fall Amid Global Recovery and Fed Rate Uncertainty
Gold prices in Pakistan declined on Friday despite a modest increase in international rates. The All-Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Sarafa Association reported that gold per tola settled at Rs427,436 after dropping Rs4,600 during the day. This local downturn occurred despite Brent crude retreating from levels above $100 a barrel.
The Fed's upcoming rate decision is being closely monitored by market participants, who assign a high probability to a rate hike in September. Traders typically influence demand for non-yielding assets such as gold with their policy signals. In the international market, spot gold rose 0.6% to $4,073.23 per ounce.
Regional trading patterns showed mixed demand. In India, dealers quoted discounts of up to $56 per ounce as buying remained subdued after an earlier rebound in prices deterred purchasers. Domestic gold in India traded around 141,800 rupees per 10 grams on Friday, after climbing to 146,000 rupees earlier in the week.
The Pakistani rupee extended its marginal gains on Friday, closing at 277.87 against the US dollar in the inter-bank market.
