Pakistan Imports One Million Tons of Wheat Amid Supply Shortage
The government of Pakistan has decided to import one million tons of wheat to bridge domestic supply and demand gaps, according to Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research. The decision was made during a meeting between the federal government and all provincial governments, which reviewed the country's wheat stock, pricing, and supply situation in detail.
The average wheat price has increased by 2.1% in the first week of July 2026 to Rs. 4,611 per 40kg (Rs. 115 per kg), with province-wise prices ranging from Rs. 4,423 in Punjab to Rs. 5,100 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The government plans to release the existing stock of wheat with the Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation (PASSCO) to all provinces as per their requirements to stabilise market prices.
