Pakistan LNG Reissued as Power Outages Persist Amid LNG Shortage
Pakistan LNG Ltd (PLL) has reissued an emergency tender for liquefied natural gas (LNG) due to ongoing power outages in the country. The previous offer from BP Plc at $27 per million British thermal units was rejected, with PLL seeking a new cargo before September 12.
The government has been struggling to meet electricity demand amid a shortage of RLNG required to operate three RLNG-based power plants in Punjab. The suspension of contracted gas supplies from Qatar due to force majeure has exacerbated the situation.
Pakistan's Power Division indirectly blamed the Petroleum Division for prolonged electricity outages, citing a shortage of RLNG and attributing it to PLL's inability to procure fuel on the spot market.
