Pakistan Receives Long-Awaited LNG Shipment from Qatar After Strait of Hormuz Detour

A long-awaited liquified natural gas (LNG) shipment from Qatar has finally reached Pakistan after a detour through the Strait of Hormuz.

The LNG vessel Al Areesh arrived at the Pakistan GasPort Limited (PGPL) terminal on Monday morning, carrying 141,550 cubic meters of LNG under the government-to-government agreement with QatarEnergy.

The shipment is significant because it comes after QatarEnergy declared force majeure in March following an attack on its production facilities. This disrupted scheduled deliveries and led to Pakistan importing spot LNG at much higher prices.

Pakistan's two LNG import terminals are currently filled to capacity, with imported LNG stored in their floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs). However, officials say that once the stored LNG is regasified, one of the facilities will become available to receive another QatarEnergy cargo.
