Pakistan Reissues LNG Tender Amid Ongoing Electricity Crisis
Pakistan's state-owned Pakistan LNG Ltd (PLL) has reissued its liquefied natural gas (LNG) tender due to a prolonged electricity crisis. The tender seeks a delivery window between September 12 and September 16.
Last week, the Power Division attributed the electricity shortage to a lack of Regasified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG), which is necessary to operate three power plants in Punjab with a combined capacity of around 5,000 MW. The federal government apologized for load shedding during night hours, citing non-availability of contracted LNG from Qatar.
The PLL initially rejected two offers from BP Singapore due to high prices: $26.9 million per billion BTU (MMbtu) for September 4-8 delivery and $26.7128 per MMbtu for September 8-12 delivery. The company is now seeking a more competitive price.
