Pakistan Secures Safe Passage for Qatari LNG Shipment Through Iran
Pakistan has secured safe passage for at least one liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipment from Qatar through Iran, as the country continues to battle an energy crunch. The LNG cargo was transported on the Al Areesh, which loaded its cargo in early July and transited the Strait of Hormuz with its transponders switched on.
This deal is the latest effort by Pakistan to use its diplomatic ties to ease a deepening energy crisis. The country has been forced to pay over $400 million since the war began in late-February, procuring LNG shipments from spot markets to replace supplies from Qatar, its top producers.
