Pakistan Seeks Emergency LNG Cargo Amid Power Crisis

Pakistan's power crisis has deepened due to a shortage of re-gasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG), leading the government to float a fresh tender for a spot LNG cargo.

The Pakistan LNG Limited (PLL) invited international suppliers to bid for 140,000 cubic metres of LNG with a tolerance of plus or minus 5%, for delivery at Port Qasim between September 4 and 8, 2026.

The emergency procurement follows the government's apology over extended power outages, which authorities attribute to insufficient LNG supplies for power generation. The shortage has added pressure on Pakistan's power sector, where gas-fired generation plays a crucial role in meeting electricity demand.
