Pakistan Seeks Emergency LNG Import Amid Ongoing Power Outages

Pakistan's government has floated a new tender to import liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a shortage of re-gasified LNG contributes to hours-long power outages across the country.

The state-run Pakistan LNG Limited (PLL) invited international suppliers to bid for 140,000 cubic meters of LNG with a tolerance of plus or minus 5.0 per cent for delivery at Port Qasim between September 4 and September 8, 2026.

.PLL plans to award the contract on the same day after bids are opened, with the selected supplier required to deliver the cargo within a five-day window starting September 4.

The government apologised last week for prolonged power outages, attributing them partly to a shortage of LNG needed for power generation.
