Pakistan Set to Meet Wheat Supply Targets in 2026-27

Pakistan is expected to maintain a comfortable wheat supply position in 2026-27. According to documents from the Ministry of National Food Security and Research, local availability is estimated at 31.78 million metric tonnes against a total requirement of 31.66 million metric tonnes.

The ministry compiled these details as part of broader agricultural reforms commitments with international development partners. The revised Household Integrated Economic Survey 2024-25 estimates per capita wheat consumption at 108.33 kg per annum, resulting in a total wheat requirement for 2026-27 of 31.66 million metric tonnes.

This includes 29.16 million metric tonnes for human consumption, 1.5 million metric tonnes for seed and feed requirements, and 1.00 million metric tonnes for strategic reserves. Local wheat availability is estimated at 31.78 million metric tonnes, comprising 29.78 million metric tonnes of domestic production and 2.00 million metric tonnes of carry-forward stocks.
