Pakistan Stock Exchange Drops 1,580 Points Amid Geopolitical Fears
The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) continued its decline on Wednesday, weighed down by rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and higher international oil prices. The KSE-100 index fell by 1,580.90 points to close at 176,042.98, marking a 0.89% decrease from the previous day's closing.
The market experienced significant volatility throughout the session, with the index touching an intraday high of 176,935.03 and a low of 175,631.74 before ending the day lower. Topline Securities attributed the session's volatility to investors' caution amid escalating regional tensions and a spike in crude prices.
Broad-based selling across major sectors outweighed selective buying interest, with United Bank Ltd, Lucky Cement, Engro Holdings, Hub Power, and Pakistan Petroleum being among the biggest drags on the benchmark. These companies collectively wiped out about 669 points from the index.
