Pakistani Gas Company Invites Foreign Investment for Cheaper Gas Networks
A Pakistani private gas company, Universal Gas Distribution Company (UGDC), is inviting foreign investment to establish a separate gas distribution network in Pakistan.
The UGDC made its first appearance at Gastech 2026, an international exhibition for natural gas, LNG, and low-carbon solutions held in Bangkok. The company pitched the idea of constructing targeted private pipeline infrastructure for high-volume industrial units and major residential schemes to provide cheaper gas to consumers.
Pakistan's participation in Gastech marked a significant milestone, with 150 countries represented at the inaugural session of the 54th annual conference. The UGDC set up its stall alongside global energy majors such as ExxonMobil, Shell, ConocoPhillips, Petronas, and Sinopec.
The company's CEO, Ghiyas Abdullah Paracha, emphasized that private sector participation operates entirely on private capital without government subsidies, generating significant revenue for the state through pipeline transit tariffs and taxes. He added that foreign participation in gas distribution and storage would improve business practices and technology transfer.
