Pakistan's Non-GMO Corn Sold at Discount Due to Moisture Issues

Pakistan's non-genetically modified (non-GMO) corn is being sold at a discount of 10-15% due to crop moisture and contamination issues, according to Muhammad Daniyal, Country Head and Head of Grains and Oilseeds for Louis Dreyfus Company.

Daniyal stated that the lower price was not due to quality but rather because of excess moisture and impurities present in the crop. He believes Pakistan has significant potential to increase agricultural production and sell its commodities in international markets due to its irrigation system, but improving agricultural infrastructure and standardizing post-harvest storage and logistics are essential for achieving this potential.

LDC has established a silage storage facility near Multan, which can store 40,000 tonnes of grain according to international standards. This facility is expected to help preserve the surplus production available in the area and maintain quality from the very first day.
