Pakistan's Power Crisis Deepens: Nationwide Supply Gap Hits 4,000 MW
Pakistan is struggling with its worst power crisis in months, with electricity generation falling at multiple plants and a nationwide supply gap crossing 4,000 megawatts.
The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) is currently dealing with a shortfall of over 1,200 MW, according to reports. The prolonged outages in LESCO's service area are attributed to repeated tripping incidents affecting the electricity network and disruptions that have added further pressure to an already strained grid.
The power crisis has been exacerbated by delayed re-gasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) supplies, which could worsen the crunch. An RLNG vessel carrying fuel reportedly failed to reach its destination in Pakistan, raising fears of existing gas supply difficulties deepening and further restricting power generation.
