Pakistan's Wheat Crisis Surpasses Global Oil Prices

Pakistan is facing a severe wheat and flour crisis that has surpassed even the global oil crisis, according to KP Finance Adviser Muzzammil Aslam. He expressed concern over rising food prices driven by diesel and LPG hikes, which have resulted in a surge of 6.75 percent in July alone and 77 percent over the past year.

Aslam questioned how wheat stocks disappeared from the country within just a few months of the harvesting season. He also criticized the provincial governments' procurement failures, with Punjab and Sindh failing to meet their targets. The adviser further asked whose negligence was responsible for the sharp increase in wheat prices in the market.

The KP Finance Adviser stated that the primary reason behind the surge in food prices is the Rs. 70 per liter increase in diesel prices, which has pushed the price of diesel to Rs. 392 per liter. He also pointed out a 51 percent increase in LPG prices, making cooking unaffordable for many households.
