Pakistan's Wholesale Food Prices Soar Amid Sharp Increases in Vegetables and Potatoes
Wholesale food prices in Pakistan surged significantly in July 2026, driven by sharp increases in the cost of vegetables and potatoes. The data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics shows that vegetable prices rose by 40.32% month-on-month, while potato prices increased by 36.25%. Poultry prices also saw a substantial rise, increasing by 23.39%, followed by egg prices, which rose by 19.09%.
The broader category of food products, beverages, and tobacco posted a monthly increase of 0.75% but remained 9.40% higher than in July 2025. Among processed food products, sugar confectionery recorded the largest monthly increase at 9.50%, followed by chocolate at 7.33% and wheat flour at 6.33%. The annual figures revealed even stronger increases, with wholesale wheat prices surging by 81.41% compared to July 2025.
The figures indicate that staple grains, fresh produce, poultry products, and processed foods remained the main sources of pressure on wholesale food prices during July.
