Paradip Becomes India's First Major Port with Direct Piped Gas Supply
Paradip, India's first piped-gas port township, has achieved a milestone by becoming the country's first major port to extend Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connectivity directly into its residential township.
The Paradip Port Authority partnered with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) to develop the local PNG network in Madhuban. The project involved constructing the distribution network and supporting infrastructure required to reduce and regulate pipeline pressure before gas could be safely supplied to households.
The PNG supply began reaching residential complexes by July 2026, when the Madhuban de-compression infrastructure was ready. On Friday, the completed Rs20-crore Phase-I network was formally inaugurated, covering 546 residential quarters in the Paradip Port township.
