Passco Wheat Quality Dispute Escalates as Millers Accuse Corporation of Supplying Damaged Grain

Pakistan flour millers have accused Passco of supplying high-moisture wheat that exceeds safe limits, causing potential financial losses for them. The Pakistan Flour Mills Association (PFMA) claims laboratory tests and inspections show moisture levels above 21%, which is more than twice the normal standard of 9-11%. This excess moisture makes the wheat unsuitable for producing standard-quality flour.

Millers also alleged that some Passco-supplied wheat had developed mould and a foul odour, rendering it unfit for human consumption. They claimed financial losses from receiving damaged wheat, which they purchase at Rs3,800 per 40kg compared to the open market price of Rs4,650.

However, Passco rejected these allegations as 'baseless', stating that the dispute primarily concerns transportation costs. A senior official acknowledged a complaint involving excess-moisture wheat in the Alipur Zone around three weeks ago but said it was immediately replaced.
