Patriot System Proves Its Worth in Intercepting Yemeni Attack on Saudi Oil Installations

Greece's Patriot missile defense system proved its effectiveness once again last weekend by intercepting two ballistic missiles and two drones launched from Yemen against Saudi oil installations in the Red Sea.

The Greek force, stationed in Saudi Arabia, had advance warning of the attack due to intelligence that the Houthi rebels had received new weapons directly from Iran. The Houthis had also announced their intention to target Aramco's refineries near Yanbu.

The PAC-2 missiles used by the Greek battery were effective, but are considered outdated and Greece is seeking an upgrade to the newer PAC-3 ACE missiles. However, demand for the new system is high, leading to delays in delivery, and Greece is exploring the option of co-producing the missiles with a third party to shorten delivery times.
