President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s administration is pushing to strengthen energy security and ensure a stable electricity supply in the Philippines, which has been affected by global events.

The President highlighted the progress of 200 energy projects nationwide during his State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, with 45 already operational, 31 expected to be completed this year, and the remaining 24 set for completion in 2028.

These projects include natural gas, geothermal, solar, hydro, wind, and biomass power plants. The extension of the Malampaya service contract until 2039 is also seen as a major boost, with an untapped reserve of 222 billion cubic feet of natural gas to power millions of households until 2034.

The President also emphasized the importance of hydrogen power and nuclear energy in achieving energy security. He noted that multiple projects are already in their pre-developmental stage for hydrogen production in various areas, including Marinduque, Masbate, Zamboanga Sibugay, Basilan, and others.
