Peru Invests $550 Million in Natural Gas Grid Expansion
The Peruvian government has committed $550 million to connect 300,000 interior homes to the natural gas grid.
The investment will be used to build regasification plants and lay down 3,711 kilometers of pipeline to bring natural gas to the targeted areas.
The project aims to address the historical centralization of gas-connected homes in Lima, with 80% currently located there.
Viceminister Iris Cárdenas stated that the government has a 'debt to the regions' and wants to reach Puno and Huancavelica immediately.
The project will also involve the construction of four primary distribution substations to regulate pressure across varied altitudes, as well as the deployment of 12 new regasification plants to convert trucked LNG back into usable piped gas.
