Peru Sees Jump in Paddy Rice Output Amid Favorable Conditions

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in Peru reported that five departments accounted for 89.8% of the country's paddy rice production in May 2026, with a total output of 889,557 metric tons.

This represents a 60.7% increase year-on-year, driven by larger harvested areas and better yields due to favorable thermal conditions. The departments that led this growth were Piura, Lambayeque, Amazonas, La Libertad, and San Martín.

In other agricultural sectors, yellow corn production grew in Áncash, Cajamarca, Ica, San Martín, and Lima, contributing 66.8% of the national total. Poultry production also increased nationally by 2.2%, with Arequipa, La Libertad, Áncash, and Lima representing 85.2% of total output.
