Peskov Warns Europe of Higher Gas Prices Without Russian Supply
Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov urged European nations to resume Russian natural gas imports during a press conference on September 9. He stated that Russian gas could have been a cheaper option for Europe, criticizing policy decisions made by European countries to continue purchasing at current elevated prices.
Peskov referenced the Nord Stream subsea gas pipeline, which remains intact despite technical issues last year. He suggested that one line can be restarted within a short period, implying that political decisions are preventing the resumption of supply.
The European benchmark natural gas price reached €75 (approximately $87) per megawatt-hour last week, more than double its level from a year ago. Storage levels in Europe currently stand at 67%, a sharp decline from approximately 80% a year earlier.
