Petrobras and Ecopetrol Discover New Natural Gas Reserve in Colombia's Caribbean
The Colombian Caribbean is gaining momentum as a major natural gas hub. Petrobras and Ecopetrol have made another significant discovery in the region, following the drilling of the Sandía-1 exploratory well in the GUA-OFF-O Block.
The well was drilled to a depth of 1,285 meters in deep waters off the Colombian coast, approximately 42 kilometers from the coastline. The location is close to previous discoveries such as Sirius-1 and Sirius-2, which have confirmed the presence of hydrocarbons in this area.
The discovery has strengthened expectations regarding the future availability of natural gas in Colombia, with Petrobras and Ecopetrol advancing their joint strategy to explore and develop offshore resources. The technical assessment will determine the scope of the discovery and define the recoverable volume and feasibility of future project phases.
