Petrobras and Seatrium Eye Collaboration to Tap Asian Gas Demand
Brazilian oil giant Petrobras and offshore player Seatrium are exploring potential collaboration opportunities to meet growing Asian demand for natural gas, according to Magda Chambriard and Chris Ong, CEOs of Petrobras and Seatrium respectively. Speaking at a media briefing after the christening ceremony for two floating production storage and offloading project (FPSO) vessels, they discussed the possibility of working together to explore offshore solutions in natural gas.
Chambriard noted that she is in discussions with Ong about how Seatrium can support Petrobras in 'the challenge to liquefy gas offshore' and be part of the exportation of gas to Asia and other markets. She highlighted the region's growing demand for gas, stating, 'We export a lot of crude oil (to the) Asia-Pacific, it is our first destination, and when we look forward, we see that maybe it will be the first destination for gas as well.'
Ong added that the liquefied natural gas (LNG) market is something that Seatrium is 'very focused upon'. He emphasized their company's capabilities and how they can enable the economics of the LNG supply chain.
