PetroChina Profit Soars on Higher Energy Prices
PetroChina's first-half profit rose by 22% due to higher global energy prices. The company's net income reached 103.9 billion yuan (approximately $15.4 billion) for the six months ending in June.
This represents a significant increase from the same period last year, when PetroChina earned 85.2 billion yuan. Revenue also climbed by 5.3% during this time.
The global energy market was driven by Brent crude prices averaging around $87 per barrel from January to June, up from approximately $71 in the same period last year. This surge in prices led to increased revenue for PetroChina's upstream operations.
However, higher oil prices also meant that PetroChina's refining operation faced more expensive feedstock costs. Despite this, the company was unable to pass these costs on to consumers due to government measures capping domestic fuel prices and limiting exports to shield the economy from inflation.
