PetroChina Profit Soars on Higher Oil Prices and Fuel Demand
PetroChina has reported a significant increase in its first-half profit, rising 22% to 103.94 billion yuan due to higher oil prices and firmer fuel demand.
The Chinese oil and gas giant's revenue climbed 5.3% to 1.5 trillion yuan, with crude processing increasing 3% to 693 million barrels.
The company saw a notable increase in aviation fuel sales, which rose 8.9% to 10.12 million tons as travel recovered from the pandemic.
PetroChina's profit may be more vulnerable to market fluctuations than it initially appears, however, with refining margins under pressure due to excess capacity and competition for demand.
