Petrol Prices in India Vary Across States Amid Global Crude Oil Fluctuations
According to the Hindustan Times, the current petrol price in Delhi is ₹102.12 per liter. This rate has remained constant for several days and is based on the dynamic pricing mechanism that reflects fluctuations in international crude oil prices and currency exchange rates.
The petrol price in India includes the cost of crude oil, refinery charges, excise duty, dealer commission, VAT, and other local taxes. The central government imposes a central excise duty on petrol, which varies over time based on government policies.
India imports about 80% of its oil needs, making domestic pump rates dependent on international prices denominated by the Indian basket of crude oil. A weak rupee increases the landed cost of dollar-denominated crude oil, affecting domestic fuel prices.
