PETRONAS Reaffirms Commitment to Supplying LNG to Japanese Utility Firm
PETRONAS has signed an agreement to continue supplying liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Japanese utility firm Hokuriku Electric Power Company. The deal, which was first announced in 2018, will see PETRONAS supply up to 0.54 million tonnes of LNG annually for the next 10 years starting from 2028.
The agreement was signed on July 14 and marks a significant commitment by PETRONAS to continue delivering reliable LNG supplies to its Japanese partner. According to Datuk Adif Zulkifli, head of PETRONAS' gas and maritime business, 'PETRONAS remains committed to continue delivering reliable LNG supply while supporting Hokuriku Electric’s energy security, operational resilience and transition journey.'
The two companies have also signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to explore strategic collaboration on carbon-neutral initiatives. This includes exploring the use of fuels such as hydrogen and ammonia, as well as renewable energy and decarbonisation technologies.
