PETRONAS Signs Deal with Japan for Emergency LNG Supply
PETRONAS, the Malaysian oil and gas company, has entered into a deal with Japan to supply emergency liquefied natural gas (LNG).
The master sales and purchase agreement was signed by PETRONAS' wholly-owned subsidiary PETRONAS LNG Ltd and the Japan Organisation for Metals and Energy Security (JOGMEC) during the LNG Producer and Consumer Conference 2026 in Tokyo.
PETRONAS said the deal is designed to establish a flexible framework to enhance Japan's energy security while balancing Malaysia's domestic energy needs amid changes in the global energy market landscape.
'The framework reinforces PETRONAS' role as a reliable and trusted LNG supplier to Japan and underscores the shared commitment to ensure reliable energy supplies amid an evolving global energy landscape,' PETRONAS said.
JOGMEC is a state agency under the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and is in charge of securing Japan's energy security.
