Petronet Faces Uncertainty Over September LNG Supplies From Qatar Amid Hormuz Crisis
India's top gas importer Petronet LNG is facing uncertainty over its September liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies from Qatar, its CEO A K Singh said on Thursday. The uncertainty comes as a result of Qatar declaring force majeure on LNG exports in March, following Iran's attack on two of the country's 14 production trains.
Qatar declared force majeure on supplies for August, according to Singh, and this measure has so far affected 56 of Petronet's Qatari LNG cargoes. The Qatar deal permits the supply of the delayed cargoes by April 2028, when the existing long-term contract ends.
To make up for the shortfall in supplies from Qatar, Indian companies are importing LNG from Oman, the US, Nigeria, and Angola among others, Singh said. Petronet has suspended operations of its three tankers that were chartered for the import of LNG from Qatar, he added.
