Petronet LNG Struggles with Uncertain Gas Supplies from Qatar
Petronet LNG, India's top gas importer, is still waiting for clear commitments on gas supply from Qatar. The company's CEO, A K Singh, said that Qatar has not given any definite plan for supplying liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Petronet for September.
This uncertainty is due to the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, where a US-Iran conflict has disrupted fuel shipments through the Strait of Hormuz. Qatar declared force majeure on LNG exports in March after Iran struck two of its 14 production trains.
Petronet is making up for the shortfall by importing LNG from other countries such as Oman, the US, Nigeria, and Angola. The company has already suspended operations of three tankers chartered for the import of LNG from Qatar.
