Petronet LNG Waits for Qatar's Clear Plan Amid Ongoing Disruptions
Petronet LNG, India's top gas importer, is still waiting for a clear plan from Qatar on liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies. The company's CEO, A K Singh, said that Qatar has not provided any definite plan for supply of LNG for September, citing the ongoing disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.
Qatar declared force majeure on LNG exports in March due to Iran's strikes on two production trains. The US-Iran conflict has also affected fuel shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, which carries around one-fifth of global oil consumption as well as large quantities of LNG.
Petronet is making up for the shortfall by importing LNG from Oman, the US, Nigeria, and Angola among others. The company's Qatari LNG cargoes have been affected by force majeure, with 56 cargo shipments impacted so far.
