Petronet LNG Waits on Qatar's September LNG Delivery Plan
Petronet LNG, India's largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) importer, is waiting for clarity from QatarEnergy on the delivery of September LNG cargoes due to ongoing shipping disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.
The company has a long-term supply agreement with QatarEnergy for 7.5 million tonnes of LNG per year. However, Qatar declared force majeure on LNG supplies after Iranian attacks on its Ras Laffan facilities in early March and extended it until August.
'Qatar has not given any definite plan for supply of LNG for September,' said Petronet LNG MD & CEO Akshay Kumar Singh. The company is affected by the force majeure, with 56 contracted LNG cargoes from Qatar impacted under the deal's current agreement expiration date in April 2028.
In response to the disruptions, India has turned to other countries for LNG imports, including the US, Oman, and Nigeria, which bypass the troubled Strait of Hormuz. Petronet LNG reported a 33% year-on-year increase in standalone net profit to Rs 1,132 crore in the first quarter of 2026-27.
