Pezeshkian's India Visit: Diplomacy Amidst Strait of Hormuz Tensions

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is set to visit India on September 12-13 for the 18th BRICS summit. This trip marks his maiden visit to India as president, taking place amidst tensions over the Strait of Hormuz and US-Iran war.

The two sides have been engaged in intense diplomacy since March to secure safe passage for commercial vessels carrying energy supplies through the Strait of Hormuz. During Pezeshkian's visit, India aims to firm up arrangements with Iran on the Chabahar Port.

Pezeshkian is also expected to brief India on peace talks with the US. However, India will await the lifting of sanctions before resuming oil imports and launching trade activities with Iran. This follows an earlier formal invitation extended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in June.
