PG&E Seeks Rate Hike for Shareholder Reward Amid Criticism

PG&E is seeking a rate hike of nearly $0.41 per month from its natural gas customers to fund a $26.6 million shareholder 'reward' payment.

The utility claims it saved ratepayers money by keeping costs down and that shareholders should be rewarded for their performance.

However, critics argue that the proposal is unfair and that ratepayers are already bearing the brunt of PG&E's spending, including the company's troubled history of causing wildfires and other damages.

The California Public Utilities Commission will make a decision on PG&E's request sometime next year.
